EPLAW members Arvid van Oorschot and Jelle Drok opened their AI-native law firm ‘Driven Lawyers’ in Amsterdam last week. The lawyers themselves developed the software platform that forms the heart of the law firm, the ‘Driven Drafter’.
Van Oorschot: “Existing firms deploy AI as a tool. We wanted it to be the core of our firm.”
The two patent litigators left their previous firms, Vondst and Freshfields, in early 2026 and spent the following months building the platform. Drok: “In today’s world, it is more straightforward to build your own software as a lawyer and bring in software engineers when needed than the other way around. As an experienced lawyer, you know exactly what you want the AI to do and when. Software developers lack the intimate knowledge of your work and thought process as a lawyer.”
Documents are drafted by ‘sparring’ with the system. Drafting takes place in a protected environment in which, according to the founders, every statement is linked to a verifiable source. Drok: “The system does not use information from the underlying AI models. It only uses our sources.”
Rather than feeding entire case files into a language model, the system retrieves the specific passages and sources relevant at each step of the drafting process. Drok: “It basically works the way a lawyer works. Because of this, we can work with files of any size and write documents of any length.”
The first writ of summons drafted on the platform (in Dutch accelerated patent proceedings) will be served this week.
