Yesterday, the first Young EPLAW webinar of 2026 took place, with the title: “The Assessment of Added Matter in the UPC, Key Takeaways for Practitioners”

After a brief introduction by EPLAW President Mark van Gardingen, Mehdi Mahammedi-Bouzina (August Debouzy, FR), Léa Richier (Lavoix, FR), Maximilian Martini (Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer LLP, DE), and Pietro Dettori (Bird & Bird, IT) took the stage to discuss how added matter is addressed in their respective countries and how this compares with the EPO’s approach.

The discussion then turned to the assessment of added matter under the UPC framework, concluding with practical takeaways for practitioners.

The session was concluded by EPLAW Vice President Philippe Campolini, who reminded participants of the upcoming Young EPLAW Congress on 20 April 2026 in Brussels.
