EPLAW – YOUNG EPLAW Mock Trial and Congress 2021

20 Apr 2021

EPLAW hosted the virtual Young EPLAW Mock Trial and Congress on 18 and 19 April. Young EPLAW is a yearly event open for associates of EPLAW members up to the age of 36. In recent years, the Congress is preceded by a Mock Trial.

In the Mock Trial, 18 advocates pleaded a patent case concerning a novel mechanical fixing technology. The jury, consisting of EPLAW members Sabine Agé (HOYNG ROKH MONEGIER, FR), Philippe Campolini (Stibbe, BE), Christian Gassauer-Fleissner (Gassauer-Fleissner, AT), Penny Gilbert (Powell Gilbert, UK), Klaus Haft, (HOYNG ROKH MONEGIER, DE) and  Myles Jelf (Bristows, UK) was impressed by the results.

Three winners were selected, which were each awarded EUR 1000. The winners are:

Jonathan Santman (Brinkhof, NL)
Laura Traest (Altius, BE)
Benjamin Rätz (Kather Augenstein, DE)

The next day, the virtual Congress took place, consisting of two presentations and panel discussions on the following hot topics:

Anti(-anti)-suit injunctions
Marie-Léa Rols (Bardehle Pagenberg, DE)
Matthew Raynor (Bristows, UK)
Philipp Widera (Vossius & Partner, DE)
Roeland Grijpink (HOYNG ROKH MONEGIER, NL)

The slides of the presentation can be accessed here.

Biosimilar litigation strategies

Gabriella Bornstein (Kirkland & Ellis, UK)
Álvaro de Castro (Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, ES)
Mark Egeler (Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, NL)
Tobias Weigand (Arnold Ruess, DE)

The slides of the presentation can be accessed here.

Hopefully, the Young EPLAW Congress and Mock Trial can be hosted live in Brussels again next year.
